Excavation for a
foundation replacement

It’s often necessary to replace a foundation when a residential or commercial building exhibits structural problems significant enough to threaten its safety or affect its value. Foundations can suffer damage as a result of ground movements, water seepage or weather conditions. In some cases, it may be sufficient to repair the existing foundation. However, if the damage is too extensive or the foundation is too old, replacing it may be the best option.

Removing the old foundation

The removal of a foundation begins with the excavation of the subsoil around it. To avoid any mishaps, Conception PLHP first checks with Info-Excavation to find out if there are any underground pipelines. Next, it’s necessary to support the building with metal columns to prevent it from collapsing while the work is in progress. It’s also important to support any existing masonry. Once everything is securely in place, it’s possible to remove the old foundation.

Replacing the foundation

The steps for casting a new foundation after removing the previous one are similar to those for constructing the foundation of a new building. The contractor must prepare the ground, removing any debris and leveling the surface, before digging the trench for the foundation and installing a watertight membrane. The next step is to install the formwork in which to pour the new foundation. Finally, it’s important to apply a waterproof coating to the entire foundation to protect it from moisture and to keep water from penetrating.

Conception PLHP specializes in excavation and foundation work and has the appropriate equipment to execute each step precisely and efficiently. We can even pour the concrete slabs. Contact us for more details.
