Formwork is a construction technique that consists of using temporary molds to create reinforced concrete structural elements, including walls, slabs, steps, beams and foundations. The molds, made of wood, metal or plastic, are designed to be removed once the concrete has set and cured. Formwork is essential for creating solid, durable structures, as it ensures precision in the shape and size of the concrete components while also offering flexibility in complex custom construction projects.
Formwork for new foundations and footing
The footing is the part of the foundation that’s underneath the ground. Its job is to support the walls of the building. To form it, the contractor must first determine the placement of the foundation before digging a trench of the appropriate width and depth. After that comes the installation of a wood or metal mold (the formwork). The contractor then pours concrete into the formwork and subjects it to vibration in order to eliminate any air bubbles and ensure that the concrete spreads evenly throughout the mold. The concrete then has to dry for several days before the panels can be removed.
